Reimagining Educational Spaces for the New World
The only thing constant about life is change. It is inevitable no matter how much we resist it. Hence the only way to make peace with change is to embrace it and make it your own.
Change does not spare anything, nature, us, our loved ones, our professions, food, life, everything. Education is an important aspect of human lives that cannot escape change either.
Change in education: A perspective
Education is how we impart the cultural, sociological, and technical knowledge that we have accumulated over centuries to our progeny. It is how we make them capable of surviving the world and adding to the existing knowledge for posterity.
Even today the system and mechanism of education are undergoing massive changes. A worldwide pandemic that forced people to quarantine inside their homes for months in the end has changed everything including education.
Teachers and students worldwide from kindergarten to colleges adapted to online teaching and classes on zoom sessions in the past year and most of them continue to function this way.
Problems with existing education systems
The lack of practical life skills such as growing food, doing taxes, dealing with trauma etc is missing from curricula worldwide.
The current educational system prepares students and children for the world in theory but not in practice. Students might know the rules of trigonometry by heart but they would not know how to grow coriander or bake a loaf of bread.
Children are trained to grow up to be technical experts in particular fields. However, their knowledge is limited to their traits and they would not know anything else about the world. These children come out of college-trained to be a part of the machinery of the world. They do not know how to survive outside the roles assigned to them.
The future of education
The education system of the future needs to be reinvented to be more holistic. The world needs children who are curious, creative, and not bound by limited options or roles given to them. Education courses and strategies have to be interdisciplinary, flexible, and all-encompassing.
The system of education should be such that it produces adults who are more than their jobs, care for more than their salary, are well rounded and skilled individuals capable and comfortable of surviving in any circumstances.
The future of educational spaces
Such massive changes in education would be incomplete without corresponding changes in educational spaces. The traditional classrooms of today need to be redesigned into spaces that would allow such dynamic and holistic courses to be taught.
The seat of knowledge, the very chairs in which students sit and imbibe all the teachings through the years have to be comfortable and flexible enough to let their minds take flights of fancy and dream their futures.
Our new college collection chairs belong to the educational spaces of the future that our children deserve. They are flexible, comfortable, made of the most superior quality and would provide a space of comfort for several students over the years.
